“I’d come to New York to explore what my real photography is. Not fine art, but photography that talks to me, resonates to my heart.” |
Kenro Izu was born in Osaka, Japan in 1949. He now lives and works out of New York City. Izu was inspired by the detailed imagery of Egypt and the Middle East as taken by the Victorian landscape photographer, Francis Frith. Due to his love of detail in the photographic image, Izu had a 14”x20” view-camera built for him so that he could produce giant negatives from which he could contact print onto hand-coated platinum/palladium paper. The resulting imagery produced using this process is radiantly detailed and reveals an array of beautiful, spiritually compelling subject matter that includes some of the most revered religious monuments set in the natural world, from Asia to Egypt and Europe.
